We got notification BCBS of Texas coverage ends December 2014 for individual policyholders. This does not apply if you have coverage with your work.
BCBS of Texas just announced that if you are on a Non-Grandfathered Plan (or Grandmothered plan as they are calling it) your coverage will end as of December 31, 2014.
A Grandmothered plan would be a BCBS of Texas plan that was purchased after March 23, 2010 and prior to January 1, 2014 or a plan that had changes made during that time.
What should happen is this:
In late September, if you are currently enrolled through a non-grandfathered/grandmothered plan you should receive a discontinuation notice and the following materials:
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Notice
Answers to Your Questions
You should then receive a packet that will give you options to transition to a metallic or ACA plan. You MUST select a new metallic plan (either with or without a subsidy) by December 31, 2014 in order to get a January 1, 2015 effective date. If not, you will have a gap in coverage. (Please note that the Dec. 31, 2014, date applies only to plans that are being discontinued.)
Important dates to remember:
Nov. 15, 2014 – First day of the open enrollment. This is when we can begin shopping and enrolling you in 2015 plans; We can also see how much of a Tax Credit or Subsidy you are eligible for as well
Dec. 31, 2014 – Final day for a Jan. 1, 2015, start date
Feb. 15, 2015 – Last day of the open enrollment
